The Technology

How Inflatable Seals Work — and Why
Conventional Gaskets Can't Replace Them

An inflatable seal is a hollow, fabric-reinforced elastomeric profile that is pressurised with air, nitrogen or water to create a seal against a mating surface. Unlike a conventional gasket, which requires bolt load to create a seal, an inflatable seal creates sealing force uniformly around its entire perimeter — with no bolt load required.

🔓

Deflated for access

When the door, hatch or access panel needs to open, the inflatable seal is fully deflated. The elastomeric profile collapses against its groove, creating clearance for the door to swing or slide freely. No mechanical friction. No wear from opening cycles.

💨

Pressurised to seal

When the door closes, compressed air, nitrogen or water is introduced into the seal at low pressure — typically 1 to 4 bar. The seal inflates uniformly around its entire profile, pressing against the mating surface and creating a reliable, leak-free closure on every cycle.

🔒

Zero leak path

The inflated seal conforms to minor irregularities in the mating surface — compensating for surface imperfections, thermal distortion, and dimensional tolerances that would cause leakage with a conventional gasket or mechanical door seal.

When to specify an inflatable seal: The door or access panel opens and closes repeatedly · The mating surface has minor irregularities or thermal distortion · Contamination control or pressure differential maintenance is critical · Conventional mechanical door seals are leaking or wearing prematurely · GMP, cleanroom, or watertight classification requires reliable, consistent sealing performance.
Two Primary Markets in India

Pharmaceutical Cleanrooms and
Marine Vessels — Both Supplied to India

Our inflatable seal range serves two fundamentally different Indian markets — each with its own material requirements, regulatory standards, and buyer profiles.

💊 Pharmaceutical & Bioprocess

ISO-Flate Pharma Sealing Series

GMP-compliant inflatable seals for pharmaceutical cleanroom doors, autoclave door seals, isolator seals, and containment chambers. FDA-approved compound options available.

Cleanroom door seals — ISO Class 5–8 cleanroom access doors. Maintains differential pressure and prevents cross-contamination between zones.
Autoclave and steriliser door seals — Steam sterilisation cycles require reliable door sealing at elevated temperature and pressure. Silicone compound rated to 180°C continuous.
Isolator and RABS seals — Restricted Access Barrier Systems require precision inflatable seals that maintain containment integrity throughout the filling cycle.
GMP compliance — Silicone compound FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 compliant. Non-shedding, non-contaminating, TSE/BSE-free certification available.

⚓ Marine & Offshore

Marine Inflatable Hatch & Door Seals

Fabric-reinforced inflatable seals for marine hatch covers, watertight door closures, access panels on offshore platforms, and bulkhead penetration seals. EPDM and neoprene compounds.

Hatch cover seals — Cargo hold hatch covers require watertight sealing across repeated open/close cycles. Inflatable seals extend maintenance intervals compared to conventional hatch packings.
Watertight door seals — Bulkhead doors on naval vessels, offshore platforms and cruise ships require reliable sealing under hydrostatic pressure.
Seawater-resistant compounds — EPDM and neoprene compounds specifically selected for seawater immersion resistance. UV-stable. Long service life in an offshore environment.

Elastomer Compounds

Three Core Compounds —
Selected for Your Application

The elastomeric compound is the most critical material decision for an inflatable seal. The wrong compound fails prematurely — through chemical attack, temperature degradation, or hardening from UV or ozone exposure.

Silicone (VMQ/PVMQ)
Temperature range: -60°C to +200°C continuous. Non-contaminating. FDA 21 CFR compliant. Excellent steam resistance. Does not support bacterial growth.
Autoclave sealsCleanroom doorsFDA compliantIsolator seals
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene)
Temperature range: -40°C to +140°C. Excellent resistance to seawater, weather, UV, ozone, and steam. Poor resistance to oils and fuels.
Marine hatchesOutdoor panelsSeawater resistantUV stable
Neoprene (CR — Chloroprene)
Temperature range: -40°C to +120°C. Good oil, weather, and flame resistance. Moderate chemical resistance. Good mechanical properties.
Naval vesselsIndustrial panelsModerate oil resistance

Other compounds available: NBR (nitrile — oil and fuel resistance) · FKM / Viton (chemical resistance, high temperature) · Natural rubber (high flexibility, low temperature). Custom compound formulations for specialist chemical environments on request.
