Fits the same groove as Type R octagonal. Pressure-energised cross-section — sealing force increases with line pressure. Mandatory on wellhead connections, Christmas tree flanges and high-pressure vessels.
For compact API flanges to 20,000 psi. Not interchangeable with R or RX — requires dedicated BX ring joint grooves machined to API 6A Appendix F tolerances. Used in deepwater BOP stacks, subsea wellhead connectors and high-pressure gas injection systems.
Silver plating (Ag) reduces galling and allows lower make-up torque — essential for subsea BOP connections. Xylan (PTFE-based) coating prevents atmospheric corrosion during storage and installation in offshore environments. Available on all profiles and alloys.
