Description
These gaskets have the best resilience of any metallic-composite type gaskets. Density of construction can be controlled to provide an optimum seal under various bolting conditions. They have high grade tolerance for flange surface finish irregularities. They are furnished in a wide variety of metals and filler materials. Sealing action results from the flow of the metal and soft filler plies when the gasket is compressed the recommended amount.
Spiral-wound gaskets are used for any circular or moderately non-circular applications where an approximate compressed thickness can be tolerated. They are particularly suited for assemblies subject to joint relaxation, temperature or pressure cycling, and shock or vibration. Excellent performance in joints restricting compression is provided, since their resiliency will compensate for modest flange separation.
