CLG Low-Pressure Insulation Gasket

CLG Low-Pressure Insulation Gasket

Core Features

  • Cost-Effective Low-Pressure Sealing: The CLG (Common Low-Pressure Gasket) is specifically designed for utility and municipal applications where high-pressure ratings (Class 150# and 300#) are not required, but reliable electrical isolation is mandatory.
  • Reinforced Phenolic Retainer: Constructed from a high-quality Fabric-Reinforced Phenolic base. This material provides excellent compressive strength and high dielectric resistance, effectively breaking the electrical path between flanges.
  • Twin-Seal Design: The CLG typically features a unique “double-hump” or “twin-path” elastomeric sealing element (usually Nitrile or EPDM) bonded to the phenolic face. This allows for a secure seal even on flanges with minor surface imperfections or low bolt loads.
  • Excellent Dielectric Strength: Provides a robust barrier against galvanic corrosion and stray currents, ensuring that cathodic protection systems operate at peak efficiency without “leakage” into adjacent structures.
  • Non-Wicking Surface: The phenolic laminate is treated to resist moisture absorption, preventing the formation of an “electrical bridge” across the gasket face in damp or buried environments.

Wide Chemical Compatibility: Resistant to water, brine, mild acids, alkalis, and various hydrocarbons found in municipal and light industrial wastewater systems.

At Kriloha Ltd., we understand that “Reliability” shouldn’t always carry a “High-Pressure” price tag. For the thousands of miles of municipal and utility piping that keep our cities running, you need a dependable, easy-to-install isolation solution. The  CLG Insulation Gasket is our engineered answer for “General-Utility” isolation. As a premier provider of pipeline integrity products, Kriloha Gaskets has optimized the CLG set for maximum lifespan in buried and submerged environments.

The engineering of our CLG series is based on Low-Torque Conformability. Many utility flanges are made of cast or ductile iron, which cannot handle the extreme bolt loads of high-pressure steel flanges. The CLG’s twin elastomeric seals are designed to “crush” and seal at much lower torque values, protecting the flange from cracking while still providing 100% electrical separation. At Kriloha, we ensure the phenolic retainer is precision-cut to match standard ANSI B16.5 and AWWA dimensions.

Manufacturing these kits at Kriloha involves strict Moisture-Resistance Testing. We verify that the phenolic base maintains its insulation properties even after prolonged exposure to soil moisture or humidity. Whether you are isolating a municipal water main or a light-duty chemical transfer line, CLG Insulation Gaskets provide the mechanical simplicity and electrical agility your facility demands. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “Maintenance-Free” technology that secures your utility infrastructure for decades to come.

Primary Use Cases

  • Municipal Water & Wastewater: The standard choice for isolating pumps, storage tanks, and treatment plant piping from the main distribution network.
  • Gas Distribution Lines: Used in low-pressure residential and commercial gas “drop-lines” to isolate the meter from the main service line.
  • Cooling Water Systems: Providing electrical isolation in industrial cooling towers and heat exchanger piping to prevent localized pitting corrosion.
  • Bulk Liquid Storage: Sealing and isolating flange joints on storage tank manways and nozzle connections.
  • Dissimilar Metal Junctions: Preventing “The Battery Effect” where ductile iron pipe connects to copper or stainless steel fittings in utility vaults.

FAQs

What makes the CLG different from the CHG?

The CLG is for low-pressure utility service (Class 150/300) and uses a phenolic base. The CHG is for high-pressure (up to Class 2500) and features a stainless steel core with G-10 laminates.

Is the CLG suitable for “Full-Face” (Type E) applications?

Yes. While often used in a Type F (Ring) configuration, Kriloha provides the CLG in a Type E (Full Face) style, which is highly recommended for flat-face cast iron flanges to prevent flange stress.

What is the temperature limit for the CLG?

The standard Reinforced Phenolic retainer is rated for temperatures up to +120°C (248°F). For higher temperature requirements, please consult Kriloha for our G-11 options.

Can I use the CLG in seawater?

Yes. The phenolic and Nitrile/EPDM components are highly resistant to saltwater. However, ensure the Insulating Sleeves (included in the Kriloha kit) are properly installed to prevent the bolts from creating a short circuit.

What comes in the Kriloha CLG I.K. Set?

The set includes: (1) CLG Gasket, (1) Insulating Sleeve per bolt, (2) Insulating Washers per bolt, and (2) Zinc-Plated Steel Washers per bolt.
