Graphite-Spun Aramid Fiber Packing

Graphite-Spun Aramid Fiber Packing

Core Features

  • Advanced Composite Yarn: Braided from high-strength Aramid fibers that are individually “spun” or impregnated with high-purity Graphite and specialized lubricants before braiding.
  • Superior Thermal Conductivity: Unlike standard yellow Aramid, the graphite-spun version rapidly dissipates frictional heat away from the shaft, preventing the “glazing” or burning commonly associated with high-speed Aramid seals.
  • Low-Friction Interface: The graphite coating acts as a permanent dry lubricant, significantly reducing breakout torque and minimizing shaft wear while maintaining the ballistic-grade strength of the Aramid core.
  • Exceptional Abrasion Resistance: Engineered to withstand the most punishing “gritty” media. The tough Aramid structure resists wear from sand, slurry, and crystals that would shred standard graphite or PTFE packings.
  • Dimensional Stability: Does not “cold flow” or extrude under high pressure. This ensures the packing maintains its square profile and constant sealing pressure even in high-vibration or high-pressure environments.
  • Broad Chemical Compatibility: Highly resistant to mild acids, alkalis, oils, solvents, and various hydrocarbons (pH range 2–12).

At Kriloha Ltd., we recognize that the “Achilles’ heel” of traditional Aramid packing is heat. While Aramid is incredibly strong, it can act like sandpaper on a shaft if it runs hot. The Kriloha Graphite-Spun Aramid Fiber Packing is our engineered answer to this challenge. As a premier global provider of industrial sealing solutions, Kriloha Gaskets has mastered the Saturation-Spinning technology required to fuse the lubricity of graphite with the invincibility of Aramid.

The engineering of our Graphite-Spun series is based on Internal Lubrication. By coating the individual fibers before they are braided, we ensure that the lubricant isn’t just on the surface—it’s through the entire cross-section. This “Graphite Reservoir” ensures that as the packing wears over thousands of hours, it continues to provide a low-friction interface. At Kriloha, we also treat the braid with a secondary high-temperature break-in lubricant to ensure a safe, cool startup.

Manufacturing this packing at Kriloha involves strict Density Verification. Because graphite-spun yarns are more conformable than raw Aramid, they provide a much better seal at lower gland loads. Whether you are sealing a high-vibration mixer or a high-pressure slurry pump, Kriloha Graphite-Spun Aramid Fiber Packing provides the mechanical stamina and thermal agility your facility demands. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “High-Efficiency” technology that protects your expensive shafts while standing up to the world’s most abrasive fluids.

Primary Use Cases

  • High-Speed Slurry Pumps: The primary choice for mining and wastewater treatment where the media is abrasive and rotating speeds are moderate to high.
  • Reciprocating Plunger Pumps: Providing a high-strength, low-friction seal for industrial cleaning and high-pressure water injection systems.
  • Paper & Pulp Refiners: Resisting the “cutting” action of wood pulp fibers while maintaining a cool-running seal on processing equipment.
  • Agitators & Mixers: Ideal for large-diameter shafts where vibration and mechanical “run-out” require a rugged yet lubricated seal.
  • Sugar & Juice Extraction: Handling viscous, crystalline fluids that typically cause high friction and wear on standard seals.

FAQs

Why is the packing black instead of the usual Aramid yellow?

The dark grey or black color comes from the heavy impregnation of High-Purity Graphite. This is intentional and provides the thermal conductivity that standard yellow Aramid lacks.

Will this packing score my pump shaft?

The graphite coating significantly reduces the risk of scoring. However, because the Aramid core is still very tough, Kriloha recommends a shaft surface hardness of at least 35-45 Rockwell C and maintaining a steady cooling leak-off.

Can I use this for concentrated chemicals?

It is highly resistant within the pH 2–12 range. For concentrated nitric or sulfuric acids (pH 0–1), Kriloha recommends our Pure Carbon Fiber or Pure PTFE packings.

How does it compare to “Zebra” (Hybrid) packing?

While Zebra packing uses Aramid only on the corners, the Graphite-Spun version uses Aramid throughout the entire braid. This makes the Graphite-Spun version much stronger for extremely high-pressure or heavy-slurry applications.

How do I install Graphite-Spun Aramid Packing?

Cut the packing into individual rings using a 45° miter joint. Stagger the joints by 90 degrees. During the initial “break-in,” allow for a steady leak-off to ensure the graphite film is established on the shaft, then gradually adjust to the desired drop-rate.
