PTFE Packing (Kynol Fiber Reinforced Corners)

PTFE Packing (Kynol Fiber Reinforced Corners)

Core Features

  • Hybrid “Zebra” Construction: A high-performance composite braid featuring a pure PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) core with all four corners reinforced with high-strength Kynol® (Novoloid) fibers.
  • Superior Anti-Extrusion Shield: Kynol® fibers possess exceptional dimensional stability. By placing them on the corners, they act as a rigid “fence,” preventing the softer PTFE yarns from “cold flowing” or extruding into clearance gaps under high hydraulic pressure.
  • Low Friction Sealing Face: The PTFE faces provide a chemically inert, low-friction interface. This ensures smooth shaft rotation, reduces heat buildup, and prevents “stiction” in automated control valves.
  • Exceptional Chemical Resilience: Highly resistant to a vast range of industrial media, including solvents, oils, mild acids, and alkalis (pH range 2–12).
  • Enhanced Thermal Stability: Kynol® is a unique phenolic fiber that does not melt or shrink; it carbonizes slowly at extreme heats, allowing the packing to maintain its structural integrity in temperature-cycling environments.
  • Non-Abrasive Hardware Protection: Unlike Aramid (Kevlar®) corners, Kynol® is significantly “softer” and more flexible. This provides high-pressure reinforcement without the risk of scoring or wearing down expensive stainless steel shafts and sleeves.

At Kriloha Ltd., we recognize that in the “High-Pressure” chemical zone, you often have to choose between a seal that is too soft (PTFE) or one that is too abrasive (Aramid). The Kriloha PTFE/Kynol Corner Packing is our engineered answer for “Gentle-Tough” sealing. As a premier global provider of industrial seals, Kriloha Gaskets has mastered the Multi-Track Hybrid Braid technology required to fuse these two distinct synthetic polymers into a single high-performance barrier.

The engineering of our Kynol-reinforced series is based on Structural Synergy. By placing the Kynol® Fiber exclusively on the corners, we provide the “Muscle” required to keep the packing square and prevent extrusion. The PTFE faces act as the “Skin,” providing a self-lubricating interface. At Kriloha, we utilize a specialized vacuum-impregnation process to ensure the Kynol corners are saturated with PTFE dispersion, further reducing friction and improving the seal against thin fluids.

Manufacturing this packing at Kriloha involves strict Yarn-Tension Calibration. We ensure the PTFE and Kynol yarns are braided at the exact same tension to prevent “spiraling” or uneven loading in the stuffing box. Whether you are sealing a high-pressure dosing pump or a sensitive process valve, Kriloha PTFE/Kynol Corner Packing provides the mechanical invincibility and chemical agility your facility demands. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “Reduced-Wear” technology that maximizes your equipment uptime while protecting your rotating assets.

Primary Use Cases

  • Chemical Process Pumps: The ideal “middle-ground” for pumps handling corrosive fluids at high pressures where pure PTFE is too soft.
  • Reciprocating Plunger Pumps: Providing a rigid, non-extruding seal for dosing and metering equipment in the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Control Valves: Perfect for valves requiring high-purity containment and low breakout torque for precise positioning.
  • Pulp & Paper Mills: Handling stock lines and “white water” where a combination of chemical resistance and mechanical stamina is required.
  • Food & Beverage Processing: Often used in non-direct contact utility lines where a clean, high-stamina chemical seal is needed.

FAQs

Why use Kynol® instead of Aramid (Kevlar®) for the corners?

Aramid is very tough but can be abrasive to the shaft. Kynol® offers excellent anti-extrusion properties but is much “softer” on the metal hardware, making it the safer choice for preventing shaft scoring.

Can I use this for concentrated Nitric Acid?

It has excellent resistance within the pH 2–12 range. For highly concentrated oxidizing acids (pH 0–1), Kriloha recommends our Pure White PTFE Filament packing.

Does this packing require a break-in period?

Yes. Like all PTFE-based packings, Kriloha recommends a controlled break-in. Allow a steady leak-off initially to wash away frictional heat, then gradually tighten the gland until the desired “drop-per-minute” rate is reached.

Is this packing “Food-Grade”?

While the PTFE is non-contaminating, the Kynol corners are an industrial phenolic fiber. For direct-contact food or pharmaceutical batches, Kriloha recommends our Pure White PTFE or Expanded PTFE grades.

How do I install PTFE/Kynol Packing?

Cut the packing into rings with a 45° miter joint. Stagger the joints by 90°. During startup, tighten the gland nuts finger-tight and adjust slowly as the equipment reaches operating temperature.
