Aramid Fiber Packing (Kevlar Style)

Aramid Fiber Packing (Kevlar Style)

Core Features

  • Ultra-High Tensile Strength: Braided from genuine Aramid fibers (aromatic polyamide), which possess a strength-to-weight ratio five times greater than steel. This makes the packing virtually immune to “fluid-cut” and mechanical tearing.
  • Extreme Abrasion Resistance: Engineered to handle the most punishing “gritty” media. The tough crystalline structure of the fiber resists wear from sand, slurry, crystals, and suspended solids that would shred standard PTFE or Graphite packings.
  • Superior Dimensional Stability: Aramid fibers do not “cold flow” or extrude under high pressure. This ensures the packing maintains its square profile and constant sealing pressure even in high-vibration environments.
  • Multi-Stage Lubrication: Each strand is typically impregnated with PTFE dispersion and treated with a high-temperature break-in lubricant. This reduces the inherent friction of the tough fibers and protects the pump shaft from heat buildup.
  • Broad Chemical Compatibility: Highly resistant to mild acids, alkalis, oils, solvents, and various hydrocarbons (pH range 2–12).
  • High-Pressure Capability: Capable of maintaining a reliable seal in high-pressure reciprocating pumps and valves where softer packings would be squeezed out of the stuffing box.

At Kriloha Ltd., we recognize that in the “Dirty Side” of industrial pumping—where sand, grit, and slurries rule—softness is a liability. You need a seal that is as tough as the media it contains. The Kriloha Aramid Fiber Packing is our engineered answer for “High-Wear” environments. As a premier global provider of industrial sealing solutions, Kriloha Gaskets has mastered the Inter-Locking Braid technology required to turn these ballistic-grade fibers into a high-performance industrial barrier.

The engineering of Kriloha Aramid Packing is based on Mechanical Durability. While graphite is for heat and PTFE is for chemicals, Aramid is for Strength. At Kriloha, we utilize a specialized vacuum-impregnation process to ensure the PTFE lubricant reaches the very core of the braid. This is critical because Aramid fibers are naturally abrasive; without our precision lubrication, the packing could generate excessive heat. Our “Yellow Jacket” series is designed to act as a “bearing-grade” seal that sacrificializes the lubricant to protect your expensive stainless steel shafts.

Manufacturing this packing at Kriloha involves strict Yarn-Tension Control. Because Aramid does not stretch, the braid must be perfectly uniform to prevent “hard spots” that could score a shaft. Whether you are sealing a high-pressure slurry line in a gold mine or an abrasive mixer in a chemical plant, Kriloha Aramid Fiber Packing provides the mechanical invincibility your equipment demands. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “Rugged-Service” technology that significantly extends the time between maintenance overhauls.

Primary Use Cases

  • Slurry & Dredge Pumps: The industry standard for mining, mineral processing, and wastewater treatment where abrasive solids are constant.
  • Paper & Pulp Mills: Handling thick stock, “black liquor,” and abrasive wood pulp fibers in refining and pumping equipment.
  • Reciprocating Plunger Pumps: Providing a high-strength seal for high-pressure water injection and industrial cleaning systems.
  • Agitators & Mixers: Resisting the mechanical stresses and shaft “run-out” common in large-scale chemical mixing tanks.
  • Sugar & Food Processing: Sealing viscous, crystalline syrups and abrasive juices during extraction and refining.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Will Aramid Packing score my pump shaft?

Because Aramid is extremely tough, it can score a shaft if it runs dry or is over-tightened. Kriloha recommends using this packing on shafts with a surface hardness of at least 45 Rockwell C and ensuring a steady “leak-off” for cooling.

Can I use Aramid Packing for high-speed clean water pumps?

It is not ideal for clean, high-speed applications. Aramid generates more frictional heat than Graphite or PTFE. It is best reserved for abrasive, slow-to-medium speed, or high-pressure applications.

Is this packing compatible with concentrated acids?

Aramid has good chemical resistance but can be degraded by strong concentrated acids and bases (outside the pH 2–12 range). For those environments, Kriloha recommends our Carbon Fiber or PTFE/GFO packings.

What is the “Zebra” or “Hybrid” Braid option?

Kriloha often produces a PTFE-Aramid Hybrid (Zebra Braid), where Aramid is used only on the corners for strength, and PTFE is used on the faces for low friction. This is an excellent “middle-ground” for medium-abrasion service.

How do I determine the correct packing size?

Measure the Shaft Diameter (ID) and the Stuffing Box Diameter (OD). Subtract the ID from the OD and divide by two. This gives you the required Cross-Section (CS) size of the packing (e.g., 10mm, 3/8″, etc.).
