CGFO Packing

CGFO Packing

Core Features

  • GFO® Style Composite Yarn: Braided from a high-performance yarn where high-purity Graphite is encapsulated within an Expanded PTFE (ePTFE) matrix. Unlike surface-coated packings, the graphite is an integral part of the fiber, ensuring it won’t “wash out” or migrate during service.
  • Superior Thermal Conductivity: The integrated graphite enables the packing to dissipate frictional heat rapidly. This allows for significantly higher peripheral shaft speeds (up to 25 m/s) compared to pure white PTFE.
  • Self-Lubricating Surface: Features a naturally low coefficient of friction. The expanded PTFE provides the “slickness” needed for smooth rotation, while the graphite acts as a permanent internal dry lubricant.
  • Universal Chemical Resistance: Chemically inert across the almost entire 0–14 pH range. It is resistant to aggressive acids, alkalis, solvents, and corrosive liquors (excluding strong oxidizers in high concentrations).
  • High-Speed Cooling Efficiency: Engineered to run cooler than almost any other synthetic packing. This reduces the risk of “shaft glazing” and protects expensive stainless steel sleeves from thermal damage.
  • Excellent Dimensional Stability: The expanded fiber structure is highly compressible yet resists “cold flow” and extrusion, maintaining a consistent sealing “bite” even under fluctuating pressures.

At Kriloha Ltd., we recognize that in high-speed rotating equipment, “Heat” is the ultimate predator. A packing that retains heat will eventually destroy both itself and the shaft it is meant to protect. The Kriloha CGFO Packing is our engineered answer for “Cool-Running” performance. As a premier global provider of industrial seals, Kriloha Gaskets has mastered the Multi-Lock Braid technology required to turn graphite-integrated ePTFE into a high-performance thermal barrier.

The engineering of our CGFO series is based on Internal Heat Transfer. By locking the graphite inside the expanded PTFE fibers at the molecular level, we create a “Thermal Highway.” As the shaft spins, the heat is pulled away from the contact surface and dissipated through the packing rings. At Kriloha, we utilize a specialized Silicone-Free break-in lubricant in our CGFO yarns to ensure a safe startup without contaminating sensitive process fluids.

Manufacturing this packing at Kriloha involves strict Fiber-Density Verification. We ensure the braid is dense enough to prevent leakage but flexible enough to conform to slightly worn shafts. Whether you are sealing a high-speed chemical transfer pump or a large-scale wastewater mixer, Kriloha CGFO Packing provides the mechanical invincibility and thermal stamina your facility demands. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “High-Velocity” technology that significantly extends your Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).

Primary Use Cases

  • High-Speed Centrifugal Pumps: The “gold standard” for pumps handling chemicals, wastewater, and cooling water where shaft speeds are high.
  • Chemical Agitators & Mixers: Providing a long-life, low-maintenance seal for large-diameter shafts in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
  • Paper & Pulp Refiners: Handling “white liquor,” “black liquor,” and stock lines where thermal stability and chemical resistance are mandatory.
  • Condensate & Boiler Feed Pumps: Capable of handling hot water and steam cycles without the hardening or brittleness associated with inferior fibers.
  • General Industrial Maintenance: Often used as a “Universal Service” packing to reduce inventory, as it can replace multiple specialized packings across a plant.

FAQs

What is the difference between CGFO and standard Graphite-PTFE?

Standard versions often have graphite coated on the outside of the yarn. CGFO has graphite inside the PTFE. This means the graphite stays put and continues to dissipate heat for the entire life of the packing, rather than washing away.

Is this packing “Shaft-Friendly”?

Absolutely. CGFO is one of the most hardware-friendly packings available. It can be used on 316 Stainless Steel shafts without the need for expensive hardened sleeves.

Can I use this for concentrated Nitric Acid?

CGFO is resistant up to pH 14 and down to pH 0. However, for highly concentrated oxidizing acids (like 90%+ Nitric Acid), the graphite component may react. In those rare cases, Kriloha recommends our Pure White PTFE filament packing.

Does it require a large “leak-off” for cooling?

Because of its superior thermal conductivity, CGFO requires much less cooling water than standard packings. A slow, steady drip (approx. 8–10 drops per minute) is usually sufficient.

How do I install CGFO Packing?

Cut the packing into rings with a 45° miter joint. Stagger the joints by 90°. During startup, tighten the gland nuts finger-tight. As the pump reaches operating speed, adjust slowly until the desired leak rate is achieved.
