Tanged Metal Reinforced Graphite Gasket

Tanged Metal Reinforced Graphite Gasket

Core Features

  • Mechanical Perforated Bond: Features a high-purity expanded graphite layer mechanically pressed into a tanged (perforated) 316L stainless steel core. The metal “tang” prongs penetrate the graphite, locking it in place without the need for chemical adhesives.
  • Maximum Blow-out Security: The perforated metal insert acts as a high-strength internal anchor, making this the most robust sheet gasket for high-pressure surges and heavy-duty industrial piping.
  • Exceptional Crush Resistance: Engineered to withstand extremely high bolt loads (up to 140 MPa) and seating stresses that would cause unreinforced or foil-reinforced graphite to “creep” or flow out of the flange.
  • Rugged Handling & Durability: The internal tanged plate provides a “stiffening” effect, allowing large or complex gaskets to be handled and installed in the field without the risk of tearing, snapping, or cracking.
  • Superior Thermal Stability: Maintains a gas-tight seal in temperatures ranging from cryogenic -240°C up to 450°C in oxidizing environments, and up to 650°C in steam.
  • Anti-Stick Surface: Naturally self-lubricating graphite faces prevent the gasket from bonding to the flange, allowing for rapid and clean removal during maintenance turnarounds.

At Kriloha Ltd., we understand that industrial environments are often unforgiving. While standard graphite is an excellent sealer, it often lacks the structural “grit” required for high-vibration or extreme-pressure applications. To bridge this gap, Kriloha Gaskets has developed the Tanged Metal Reinforced Expanded Graphite Gasket. As a premier global supplier of rubber seals and gaskets, we have engineered this composite material to provide the highest level of mechanical security in the expanded graphite category.

The construction of this gasket is a feat of mechanical engineering. It utilizes a central core of 316L Stainless Steel tanged metal. During our high-pressure lamination process, the expanded graphite is literally forced into the metal perforations. These sharp metal “tangs” embed themselves into the graphite layers from both sides. This creates a mechanical “interlock” that eliminates the need for glues or binders—which can often fail or outgas at high temperatures. The result is a unified, high-strength sealing sheet that can withstand internal pressures and thermal shocks that would destroy standard gaskets.

The primary advantage of the Kriloha Tanged series is its Blow-out Security. In systems where pressure spikes or water hammers are common, the internal metal plate acts as a physical cage, preventing the graphite from being pushed out of the flange. Furthermore, the tangs provide a “stiffness” that is highly valued by maintenance crews. Large gaskets (up to 1500mm or more) can be lifted and placed into vertical flange gaps without the material “flopping” or snapping—a common frustration with pure graphite sheets.

As the industry’s top provider, Kriloha Ltd. ensures that every sheet is manufactured with Low-Sulfur, High-Purity Graphite. This is critical because the metal core is in constant contact with the graphite; any impurities could lead to localized pitting or corrosion of the stainless steel insert. By choosing Kriloha, you are opting for a product that combines the “flow” of graphite with the “force” of steel. It is the ultimate heavy-duty sealing solution for facilities that prioritize safety, longevity, and ease of installation in their most demanding piping systems.

Primary Use Cases

  • High-Pressure Steam & Condensate: The preferred “Workhorse” gasket for steam headers and thermal power plant distribution lines.
  • “Bad-Actor” Flange Joints: Ideal for older or slightly misaligned flanges where high bolt torque is required to achieve a seal.
  • Petrochemical & Refinery Service: Used in high-temperature hydrocarbon processing where fire-safety and mechanical strength are paramount.
  • Pumps, Valves, and Sight Glasses: Providing a rigid, reliable seal for high-vibration equipment and heavy-duty valve bonnets.
  • Large Diameter Pressure Vessels: Structural integrity for manway covers and vessel flanges that undergo significant thermal expansion.

FAQs

What is the difference between Foil-Reinforced and Tanged-Reinforced?

Foil uses a thin, flat sheet of metal, making it easier to cut with a knife. Tanged (Perforated) uses a thicker metal plate with prongs that “lock” the graphite in place, providing much higher blow-out resistance and mechanical strength.

Is this gasket harder to cut than other graphite sheets?

Yes. Because of the 316L stainless steel tanged core, you will need heavy-duty shears, a gasket punch, or a water-jet machine. It is generally too tough to cut safely with a standard utility knife.

Does the tanged metal insert cause flange damage?

No. The graphite layers on the outside (standard 0.5mm to 1.0mm per side) are thick enough to cushion the flange faces. The metal tangs stay embedded within the graphite and do not come into direct contact with the flange when properly torqued.

Can I use this for high-vibration applications like pumps?

Absolutely. The mechanical bond between the graphite and the tangs makes this the best graphite gasket for resisting the fatigue caused by high-frequency vibration and pressure pulses.

What is the standard core material used by Kriloha?

Our standard insert is 316L Stainless Steel (0.1mm thickness before tanging), but we can also manufacture these with specialized inserts like Monel or Hastelloy for extremely corrosive chemical environments.
