Flexible Graphite Packing

Flexible Graphite Packing

Core Features

  • High-Purity Mineral Carbon: Braided from expanded flexible graphite yarns with a minimum carbon content of 99%. This ensures the packing remains resilient and does not become brittle, even after years of high-heat service.
  • Self-Lubricating Microstructure: The inherent molecular structure of graphite provides a low coefficient of friction. This “dry lubrication” prevents shaft scoring and reduces the energy required to actuate valves and pumps.
  • Exceptional Thermal Conductivity: Engineered to rapidly dissipate frictional heat away from the stuffing box. This cooling effect protects both the packing and the mechanical hardware from thermal fatigue.
  • Volumetric Stability: Unlike synthetic fiber packings, flexible graphite does not shrink or lose volume at high temperatures. This minimizes the need for frequent gland adjustments and prevents “bedding-in” leaks.
  • Inert Chemical Resistance: Chemically stable across the 0–14 pH range, making it compatible with almost all industrial fluids, including high-pressure steam, hydrocarbons, and aggressive chemicals (excluding strong oxidizers).
  • Extreme Temperature Ceiling: Maintains a reliable seal from cryogenic levels up to +450°C (+850°F) in oxidizing atmospheres and up to +650°C (+1200°F) in steam.

At Kriloha Ltd., we understand that in the world of high-velocity fluid transport, “Heat” is the greatest enemy of a seal. A packing that hardens under heat is a packing that fails. The Kriloha Flexible Graphite Packing is engineered for “Thermal Endurance.” As a premier global provider of industrial sealing solutions, Kriloha Gaskets has mastered the Inter-Locking Braid technology required to turn expanded graphite into a high-strength mechanical barrier.

The engineering of Kriloha Graphite Packing is based on Radial Resilience. When the gland is tightened, the braided structure expands uniformly against the shaft and the stuffing box wall. At Kriloha, we often integrate Inconel or Stainless Steel wire into the core of the graphite yarns. This internal “skeleton” provides the high-tensile strength required to resist “extrusion”—preventing the packing from being squeezed out of the stuffing box under extreme pressure.

Manufacturing this packing at Kriloha involves strict Lubricant-Free Processing. Because graphite is naturally slick, we do not use oils or greases that could “cook out” and contaminate your process media. We offer this packing in various grades, including Nuclear Grade and Corrosion Inhibited versions. Whether you are sealing a high-pressure steam header or a critical chemical pump, Kriloha Flexible Graphite Packing provides the mechanical stamina and chemical invincibility your facility demands. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “Zero-Maintenance” philosophy that maximizes equipment uptime.

Primary Use Cases

  • High-Pressure Steam Valves: The industry standard for power plant isolation valves, bypass valves, and control valves.
  • Centrifugal & Reciprocating Pumps: Ideal for high-speed shafts handling hot oil, boiler feed water, and condensate.
  • Petrochemical Refineries: Providing a fugitive emission-compliant seal for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and heat transfer fluids.
  • Soot Blowers: Resisting the intense mechanical abrasion and thermal shocks found in industrial boiler cleaning systems.
  • Nuclear Facilities: Utilized in primary and secondary loops where radiation resistance and long-term sealing integrity are mandatory.

FAQs

Why use Flexible Graphite instead of PTFE packing?

PTFE is excellent for chemicals but is limited to 260°C and can “cold flow.” Flexible Graphite handles double the temperature, does not flow under pressure, and has superior thermal conductivity for high-speed shafts.

Does this packing cause “Pitting” on stainless steel stems?

Standard graphite can occasionally cause galvanic corrosion. To prevent this, Kriloha offers versions treated with a Zinc-based corrosion inhibitor, which acts as a sacrificial anode to protect your expensive valve stems.

What is the benefit of “Wire-Reinforced” graphite packing?

Wire reinforcement (Inconel or SS) is recommended for high-pressure valve service (above 2500 PSI). The wire prevents the graphite from being pushed through the clearance gaps of the stuffing box.

Can I use this packing for drinking water?

Yes, provided you specify the high-purity grade. Graphite is an inorganic mineral and does not leach harmful chemicals into the fluid stream.

How do I determine the correct packing size?

Measure the Shaft/Stem Diameter (ID) and the Stuffing Box Diameter (OD). Subtract the ID from the OD and divide by two. This gives you the required Cross-Section (CS) size of the packing.
