Braided Flexible Graphite Tape

Braided Flexible Graphite Tape

Core Features

  • High-Purity Flexible Graphite Matrix: Manufactured from expanded natural graphite flakes, providing an inherently high-temperature, chemically inert sealing medium with no binders or fillers that could cook out.
  • Knitted or Braided Reinforcement: Features an internal “skeleton” of Inconel or Stainless Steel wire knitted into the graphite structure. This allows the tape to be handled and manipulated without breaking or shedding.
  • Self-Lubricating & Non-Sticking: The natural properties of graphite provide a low-friction surface that ensures the tape releases cleanly from flange faces during maintenance, preventing “pitting” or surface damage.
  • Exceptional Thermal Conductivity: Rapidly dissipates heat away from the sealing interface, making it the premier choice for high-heat applications where standard gaskets would carbonize.
  • Universal Chemical Resistance: Resistant to most media across the 0–14 pH range, including aggressive steam, hydrocarbons, and most industrial chemicals (excluding strong oxidizers).
  • Extreme Temperature Range: Capable of maintaining a gas-tight seal from cryogenic levels up to +450°C (+850°F) in oxidizing atmospheres, and up to +650°C (+1200°F) in steam or non-oxidizing environments.

At Kriloha Ltd., we understand that in high-heat environments, “Softness” must be balanced with “Strength.” If a gasket is too rigid, it won’t seal a worn flange; if it’s too fragile, it will blow out under pressure. The Kriloha Braided Graphite Tape is our engineered answer for “High-Stress” emergency and maintenance sealing. As a premier global supplier of industrial seals, Kriloha Gaskets has mastered the Inter-Locking Braid technology required to turn fragile graphite into a rugged, flexible sealing ribbon.

The engineering of Kriloha Graphite Tape is based on Thermal Resilience. Unlike synthetic tapes that can melt or harden, our flexible graphite remains elastic even at “Red-Heat” temperatures. At Kriloha, we utilize a Corrugated or Knitted profile that allows the tape to be wrapped around tight radii without cracking. The internal Inconel wire reinforcement ensures that even if the system experiences a high-pressure spike, the graphite remains pinned in place, providing the “Blowout Protection” your facility demands.

Manufacturing this tape at Kriloha involves strict Density Control. We offer this in various widths (typically 10mm to 50mm) on convenient spools, often with a Self-Adhesive Backing to simplify installation on vertical surfaces. Whether you are sealing a high-pressure steam header or a complex exhaust housing, Kriloha Braided Graphite Tape Gaskets provide the chemical invincibility and thermal stamina required for a permanent seal. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “Universal Emergency Solution” that keeps your high-heat assets running safely.

Primary Use Cases

  • High-Pressure Steam Valves: The industry standard for “Emergency” packing or secondary seals in high-temperature steam isolation valves.
  • Exhaust Manifolds & Turbochargers: Providing a heat-resistant, conformable seal for uneven or warped exhaust flanges in heavy machinery.
  • Large Diameter Heat Exchangers: An excellent “On-Site” solution for sealing large, irregular joints where a pre-cut spiral wound gasket is unavailable.
  • Boiler Handholes & Inspection Ports: Providing a soft, highly conformable seal that fills pits and irregularities on older boiler seating surfaces.
  • Petrochemical Piping: Reliable sealing for hot oil, thermal fluids, and volatile hydrocarbons in refinery utility lines.

FAQs

Why use Braided Graphite Tape instead of Expanded PTFE tape?

While PTFE tape is excellent for chemicals, it is limited to 260°C. Graphite Tape is required for applications exceeding those temperatures, such as high-pressure steam and exhaust systems where PTFE would melt.

Does this tape require a sealant or adhesive?

No. The graphite itself is highly conformable and will flow into the flange irregularities under bolt pressure. Many of our tapes come with a pressure-sensitive adhesive strip purely to help hold the tape in place during assembly.

What is the “Overlap” procedure for tape gaskets?

When the tape circles back to the start, you should overlap the ends by roughly 20mm to 30mm at a bolt hole location. This ensures that when the flange is tightened, the overlap is compressed into a single, seamless barrier.

Can this tape be used for “Emergency” Valve Packing?

Yes. In many maintenance scenarios, Braided Graphite Tape can be die-formed or wrapped into a stuffing box to create a functional valve stem seal when standard packing rings are out of stock.

Is this material “Fire-Safe”?

Absolutely. Graphite is inherently non-combustible and maintains its structural integrity during fire events, making it a critical component in fire-safe piping designs for refineries and power plants.
