Pure PTFE Packing (Lubricated with Oil)

Pure PTFE Packing (Lubricated with Oil)

Core Features

  • High-Purity PTFE Filament: Braided from 100% virgin Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) yarns, ensuring near-universal chemical resistance across the 0–14 pH range.
  • Specialized Inert Oil Impregnation: Unlike “dry” PTFE, this packing is thoroughly treated with a high-grade, chemically inert silicone or mineral oil. This lubricant serves as a sacrificial break-in agent, drastically reducing heat generation during initial equipment startup.
  • Low Friction & High Velocity: The combination of PTFE’s natural slickness and the added oil lubrication allows for higher peripheral shaft speeds (up to 10–12 m/s) compared to non-lubricated pure PTFE.
  • Excellent Dimensional Stability: The dense, square-interlock braid resists “cold flow” and extrusion, maintaining a consistent sealing “bite” even under fluctuating pressures.
  • Non-Abrasive Performance: The soft, lubricated fibers are exceptionally kind to stainless steel, bronze, and chrome-plated shafts, virtually eliminating the risk of shaft scoring or sleeve wear.

Thermal Versatility: Maintains its sealing integrity and physical properties from cryogenic temperatures up to +260°C (+500°F).

At Kriloha Ltd., we recognize that while PTFE is the “King of Chemicals,” it is a notoriously poor conductor of heat. In a high-speed pump, a dry PTFE packing can expand rapidly, seizing the shaft or burning the seal. The Kriloha Lubricated Pure PTFE Packing is our engineered answer for “High-Velocity Chemical” service. As a premier global provider of industrial seals, Kriloha Gaskets has mastered the Pressure-Saturating technology required to lock specialized lubricants deep into the PTFE fiber matrix.

The engineering of our Lubricated PTFE series is based on Thermal Management. The integrated oil acts as a heat-transfer medium, helping to dissipate the energy created at the shaft interface. At Kriloha, we utilize a vacuum-impregnation process to ensure the oil is distributed evenly throughout the cross-section of the packing, not just on the surface. This ensures that as the packing wears over months of service, it continues to provide a self-lubricating interface that protects your expensive rotating hardware.

Manufacturing this packing at Kriloha involves strict Lubricant-Purity Calibration. We ensure the oil used is chemically compatible with the PTFE and will not “carbonize” or harden at the operating temperature. Whether you are sealing a high-speed chemical transfer pump or a sensitive process mixer, Kriloha Lubricated Pure PTFE Packing provides the chemical invincibility and mechanical agility your facility demands. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “Reduced-Friction” technology that saves energy and extends your equipment’s mean time between failures (MTBF).

Primary Use Cases

  • Centrifugal & Rotary Pumps: The preferred choice for pumps handling aggressive chemicals, solvents, and corrosive fluids where a low-friction, cool-running seal is required.
  • Chemical Agitators & Mixers: Providing a long-life, high-purity seal for large-diameter shafts in the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Control Valves: Ideal for automated valves requiring very low “stiction” (static friction) for precise, jitter-free positioning.
  • Reciprocating Plunger Pumps: Used in dosing and metering pumps where a conformable, lubricated seal is necessary to prevent leakage of thin fluids.
  • Food & Beverage Processing: Often used in utility lines and non-direct contact points where a clean, lubricated chemical seal is needed.

FAQs

Why use “Lubricated” PTFE instead of “Dry” PTFE?

Dry PTFE is excellent for valves, but in Rotating Pumps, the friction creates heat that PTFE cannot dissipate quickly. The oil lubrication allows the packing to run much cooler at higher speeds without glazing or burning.

Does the oil “bleed out” into the process media?

There is a very minimal “break-in” release of oil during the first few minutes of operation. For ultra-pure pharmaceutical batches where zero oil is permitted, Kriloha recommends our Dry Pure PTFE or Expanded PTFE grades.

Is this packing compatible with concentrated acids?

Yes, the PTFE fibers are immune to almost all chemicals. However, you should verify that the specific lubricant (Silicone or Mineral) is compatible with your media. Kriloha offers different oil types based on your chemical requirements.

Can I use this for oxygen service?

No. Lubricated packings (containing oils or greases) should never be used for oxygen service due to the risk of spontaneous combustion. Use Kriloha Dry Pure PTFE for oxygen applications.

How do I install Lubricated PTFE Packing?

Cut the packing into rings with a 45° miter joint. Stagger the joints by 90°. During startup, allow for a slightly higher leak-off rate (20–30 drops per minute) to let the lubricant establish a film, then gradually tighten to the desired level.
