Expanded PTFE Gasket

Expanded PTFE Gasket

Core Features

  • Multidirectional Fibrous Structure: Created through a specialized expansion process that transforms standard PTFE into a unique, fibrous microstructure. This prevents the “cold flow” and “creep” common in conventional virgin PTFE.
  • High Compressibility & Conformability: Exceptionally soft and flexible, allowing the gasket to fill deep scratches, pits, and irregularities in worn or fragile flange faces.
  • Superior Thermal Stability: Maintains a tight seal across a massive temperature range, from cryogenic -268°C up to a continuous operating temperature of +260°C (+315°C for short-term spikes).
  • Universal Chemical Resistance: Inherits the 0–14 pH resistance of pure PTFE, making it immune to almost all aggressive chemicals, acids, and alkalis.
  • Low Seating Stress: Achieves a gas-tight seal at minimal bolt torque, which is critical for protecting delicate equipment like glass-lined or plastic piping.
  • Dimensional Stability: Once compressed, the expanded fibers lock together, ensuring the gasket retains its thickness and width even under high pressure and temperature fluctuations.

At Kriloha Ltd., we recognize that in real-world industrial environments, flanges are rarely perfect. Over years of service, they become pitted, scarred, or slightly warped. A standard rigid gasket simply cannot conform to these defects. The Kriloha Expanded PTFE Gasket is engineered to be the “problem solver” for these challenging joints. As a premier global supplier of high-performance seals, Kriloha Gaskets has mastered the expansion technology required to turn rigid PTFE into a dynamic, “marshmallow-soft” sealing material.

The secret to Expanded PTFE (ePTFE) lies in its Tensile Strength. Standard PTFE is prone to “creep”—it squeezes out of the joint like toothpaste under pressure. By expanding the PTFE, we create a multidirectional fiber orientation. When you compress a Kriloha ePTFE gasket, these fibers compress into a dense, high-strength shield that stays exactly where you put it. This “lock-in” effect allows the gasket to handle significantly higher pressures than virgin PTFE while remaining soft enough to seal on a hand-tightened plastic flange.

Manufacturing these gaskets at Kriloha involves a high-precision Biaxial Expansion process. This ensures that the material has equal strength in both the longitudinal and transverse directions, preventing “splitting” during installation. We offer ePTFE in sheets, cut gaskets, and joint sealant tape (spool-form) for large-scale applications. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “Universal Sealing Solution” that reduces inventory complexity while providing the chemical invincibility and mechanical adaptiveness required for your most critical assets.

Primary Use Cases

  • Large Diameter Flanges: The “go-to” solution for large-bore heat exchangers and vessel manways where flanges may be slightly warped.
  • Glass-Lined & Plastic Piping: Providing a secure seal without the risk of over-tightening and cracking fragile flange materials.
  • Strong Acid & Alkali Service: Handling concentrated Hydrochloric, Sulfuric, and Nitric acids in chemical synthesis plants.
  • Pharmaceutical & Food Processing: Meeting FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 standards for non-contaminating, high-purity fluid handling.
  • Emergency Maintenance: An excellent “universal” gasket for on-site repairs where flange conditions are unknown or substandard.

FAQs

What is the main advantage of Expanded PTFE over Virgin PTFE?

Expanded PTFE does not “creep” or “cold flow” like Virgin PTFE. It stays dimensionally stable under load and can seal on much lower bolt torques, making it safer for fragile flanges.

Can I use ePTFE on high-pressure steam?

Yes, ePTFE is highly effective for steam service up to its temperature limit (260°C). Its high recovery helps maintain a seal during the thermal cycles of steam start-up and shut-down.

Is this material FDA compliant?

Absolutely. Kriloha uses 100% virgin PTFE resin for the expansion process, ensuring it is non-toxic, non-contaminating, and fully compliant with FDA and EU food contact regulations.

Does Expanded PTFE have a shelf life?

No. PTFE is chemically inert and does not age, harden, or become brittle over time. Kriloha ePTFE gaskets can be stored indefinitely in a clean, dry environment.

How do I choose between ePTFE sheet and ePTFE Joint Sealant tape?

Sheets are best for standard piping and pre-cut gaskets. Joint Sealant tape (with adhesive backing) is ideal for large-diameter flanges (over 24″), complex shapes, or emergency repairs where a pre-cut gasket is not available.
