Jacketed Graphite Packing

Jacketed Graphite Packing

Core Features

  • Reinforced Composite Architecture: Features a high-purity Flexible Graphite core encapsulated within a high-strength “jacket” or over-braid of reinforcing fibers (typically Inconel wire mesh, Carbon fiber, or Aramid).
  • Ultimate Anti-Extrusion Shield: The outer jacket acts as a structural containment sleeve, preventing the graphite from being “squeezed” out through the clearance gaps of the stuffing box, even under extreme high-pressure differentials.
  • High-Pressure Blowout Protection: Specifically engineered to maintain its shape and sealing integrity at pressures exceeding 450 Bar (6,500 PSI) in static valve service.
  • Superior Thermal Conductivity: The internal graphite core continues to dissipate frictional heat rapidly, while the jacket provides the mechanical “toughness” required for high-stress industrial environments.
  • Volumetric Stability: Unlike standard braided packings that may shrink or “bed-in” significantly, the jacketed design maintains its cross-sectional density, requiring fewer gland adjustments over time.
  • Passive Corrosion Inhibition: The graphite core is typically treated with Zinc or Phosphorus-based inhibitors to prevent galvanic pitting of stainless steel valve stems.

At Kriloha Ltd., we recognize that in ultra-high-pressure steam and chemical service, “Softness” must be physically contained. While pure graphite is the ultimate sealer, at 5,000 PSI, it wants to flow like a liquid. The Kriloha Jacketed Graphite Packing is our engineered answer for high-stress containment. As a premier global provider of industrial sealing solutions, Kriloha Gaskets has mastered the Sleeve-Braiding technology required to lock a resilient graphite heart inside an industrial-strength cage.

The engineering of Kriloha Jacketed Packing is based on Structural Encapsulation. By surrounding the graphite with a knitted Inconel or Carbon jacket, we create a packing that behaves like a solid, yet flexible, metal-reinforced gasket. At Kriloha, we ensure the jacket is woven tight enough to prevent graphite “migration” but flexible enough to allow the packing to expand radially and seal against the stem and stuffing box wall.

Manufacturing this packing at Kriloha involves strict Tensile Calibration of the jacketing fibers. We utilize high-nickel alloys to ensure the jacket doesn’t become brittle at temperatures reaching +650°C (+1200°F). Whether you are sealing a high-pressure boiler header or a critical refinery isolation valve, Kriloha Jacketed Graphite Packing provides the mechanical invincibility and thermal stamina your facility demands. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “High-Integrity” technology that ensures maximum safety for your high-pressure assets.

Primary Use Cases

  • High-Pressure Main Steam Isolation Valves (MSIV): The critical choice for power plant steam headers where blowout safety is the highest priority.
  • High-Pressure Petroleum Control Valves: Providing a fugitive emission-compliant seal for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in refinery high-pressure loops.
  • Soot Blowers: Resisting the extreme mechanical abrasion and thermal shocks found in industrial boiler cleaning cycles.
  • Nuclear Power Primary Loops: Utilized where high-radiation resistance and “Zero-Failure” mechanical integrity are mandatory.
  • Autoclaves & High-Pressure Reactors: Sealing large-diameter shafts and valve stems handling aggressive media at extreme pressures.

FAQs

What is the difference between “Wire-Reinforced” and “Jacketed” packing?

Wire-Reinforced: The wire is inside the individual yarns.

Jacketed: The entire packing (or the core) is wrapped in an outer protective sleeve. Jacketed designs offer much higher resistance to extrusion in extreme-pressure gaps.

Does the jacket scratch the valve stem?

When using an Inconel jacket, the soft graphite is compressed through the mesh to provide the primary seal. While the mesh is made of metal, it is designed to be “non-scoring” when the gland is tightened correctly.

Can I use this for high-speed pumps?

Jacketed packing is primarily designed for Valves and slow-moving equipment. For high-speed centrifugal pumps, the jacket can generate excessive frictional heat; Kriloha recommends our Carbon-Corner or PTFE-Impregnated graphite grades for those uses.

Is this packing “Fire-Safe”?

Absolutely. Since it consists entirely of inorganic graphite and high-performance metal or carbon alloys, it is inherently non-combustible and will maintain its sealing integrity during and after a fire event.

How do I install jacketed packing?

Cut the rings using a sharp tool to ensure the jacket doesn’t fray. It is often recommended to use jacketed rings as “End Rings” (top and bottom) with standard die-formed graphite rings in the center to create a complete, blowout-proof sealing set.
