Hybrid “Zebra” Braided Packing

Hybrid “Zebra” Braided Packing

Core Features

  • Tri-Material “Zebra” Architecture: A high-performance composite braid featuring Aramid Fiber on the four corners for structural strength, with Graphite-PTFE (GFO style) yarns on the sealing faces for low-friction performance.
  • Anti-Extrusion Corner Reinforcement: The yellow Aramid corners act as a rigid “fence,” preventing the softer Graphite-PTFE yarns from being squeezed out of the stuffing box under high pressure or high-velocity surges.
  • Superior Thermal Dissipation: The graphite-impregnated PTFE faces rapidly draw frictional heat away from the shaft, while the Aramid corners provide the mechanical “backbone” to resist wear.
  • Exceptional Shaft Protection: Designed to be “kind” to rotating hardware. The soft sealing faces minimize shaft scoring, while the tough corners handle the mechanical stresses of shaft “run-out” or vibration.
  • High-Pressure & High-Speed Stability: Capable of maintaining a leak-proof seal at pressures up to 250 Bar (3,600 PSI) and surface speeds up to 20 m/s.
  • Broad Chemical Resistance: Resistant to a wide array of industrial media (pH 2–12), including oils, solvents, mild acids, alkalis, and abrasive slurries.

At Kriloha Ltd., we understand that industrial reality is rarely “Clean.” Most pumps face a combination of high pressure, high heat, and abrasive particles. A pure PTFE packing is too soft; a pure Aramid packing is too abrasive. The Kriloha Zebra Braided Packing is our engineered “Best-of-Both-Worlds” solution. As a premier global provider of industrial seals, Kriloha Gaskets has mastered the Multi-Track Hybrid Braid required to fuse these distinct minerals into a unified high-performance barrier.

The engineering of our Zebra packing is based on Strategic Reinforcement. By placing the Aramid Fiber exclusively on the corners, we provide the “Muscle” required to keep the packing square and prevent extrusion. The Graphite-PTFE faces act as the “Skin,” providing a self-lubricating interface that allows the shaft to spin freely with minimal heat buildup. At Kriloha, we ensure the Aramid is pre-treated with PTFE dispersion to ensure that the corners don’t “bite” into the shaft, even under high gland loads.

Manufacturing this packing at Kriloha involves strict Braid-Symmetry Verification. We ensure the “Zebra” pattern is perfectly uniform throughout the length of the spool to prevent “spiraling” or uneven loading in the stuffing box. Whether you are sealing a high-vibration mixer or a high-pressure abrasive pump, Kriloha Hybrid Zebra Packing provides the mechanical invincibility and thermal stamina your facility demands. By choosing Kriloha Ltd., you are investing in a “Universal Service” technology that simplifies your inventory and extends the life of your expensive rotating assets.

Primary Use Cases

  • High-Pressure Slurry Pumps: The primary choice for mining and wastewater treatment where the media is both abrasive and under significant pressure.
  • Reciprocating Plunger Pumps: Providing a high-strength, low-friction seal for industrial cleaning and water injection systems.
  • Agitators & Mixers: Ideal for large-diameter shafts where vibration and mechanical “wobble” would destroy a standard single-material packing.
  • Paper & Pulp Refiners: Resisting the “cutting” action of wood pulp fibers while maintaining a cool-running seal on high-speed equipment.
  • Chemical Process Pumps: A “Universal” maintenance packing for facilities that handle a mix of clean and gritty fluids.

FAQs

Why is it called “Zebra” packing?

The name comes from the distinct visual pattern created by the alternating yellow Aramid corners and the dark grey/black Graphite-PTFE faces, resembling a striped pattern once braided.

Can I use this for concentrated acids?

It has excellent resistance within the pH 2–12 range. For highly concentrated nitric or sulfuric acids (pH 0–1), Kriloha recommends our Pure Carbon Fiber or Pure PTFE packings.

Does this packing score the shaft like pure Aramid?

No. Because the primary contact surface is soft Graphite-PTFE, the risk of shaft scoring is significantly reduced. However, Kriloha still recommends a shaft hardness of 35–45 Rockwell C for maximum longevity.

Is this packing suitable for “Dry-Running”?

No packing should truly run dry. However, the Graphite-PTFE faces provide superior “Dry-Lubricity” during startup compared to standard synthetic fibers, protecting the seal until the fluid film is established.

How do I install Zebra Packing?

Cut the packing into individual rings using a 45° miter joint. Stagger the joints by 90 degrees. During the initial “break-in,” allow for a steady leak-off to cool the Aramid corners, then gradually tighten the gland to the desired drop-rate.
